Ethereum 2.0's multi-client Medalla testnet goes live

Medalla, "the official public multi-client testnet" for the first phase of Ethereum 2.0, has gone live.

The Medalla testnet's goal is to be the final test prior to the mainnet launch of Ethereum 2.0. The testnet will assess how Ethereum 2.0 will work with multiple different clients.

According to a blog by the Ethereum Foundation, there will be five clients running at the genesis of the Medalla testnet: Teku, Prysm, Nimbus, Lodestar and Lighthouse.

As previously reported, the first phase of Ethereum 2.0 may not go live until early next year. However, depending on progress in the following months and the results of the Medalla testnet, the genesis launch could occur as early as November.
