Kwan was formerly the managing director and head of regulatory compliance for the Hong Kong Exchange and Clearing. She joined BitMEX in October 2018. When she joined, Kwan said in an interview that she would be "responsible for overseeing and driving the company’s growth" and will guide BitMEX on its mission to offer advanced, innovative financial products for the global cryptocurrency industry.”

More recently, BitMEX has had run-ins with U.S. regulatory agencies. In July, Bloomberg reported that the CFTC was investigating the exchange to determine whether it broke rules by allowing U.S traders onto its platform.

It unclear who will replace Kwan as BitMEX's COO.
