Social network Path co-founder and former CEO joins Blockstack PBC as an advisor

Blockstack has brought on venture capitalist and serial entrepreneur Dave Morin as an advisor, the firm announced Monday. Morin was a former Facebook manager who co-created the Facebook Platform and Facebook Connect. He then went on to co-found Path, a photo-based social network that was a competitor to Facebook.

The announcement notes that a primary reason Morin joined Blockstack is his belief in what they are setting out to do when it comes to empowering users at scale, and the fact that its entire architecture is built from the ground-up.

Morin had expressed interest in a personal and decentralized internet that gives power and privacy back to the user since the days he co-founded Path, which was intended to offer users a "personal experience".

“It just can’t happen that we have another wave of technical innovation happen and that all of society is not participating. This technology is so profound, on so many levels, that it feels imperative to educate everyone about it.” Morin said at the “Decrypting Crypto” Summit.

With over 70+ applications already built on Blockstack and its focus on privacy, security and freedom, Blockstack is hoping to accomplish many of the things Morin has seen as necessary for the internet.
